3 ways your insurance agency can attract young talent

By 2020, there will be a need to fill 400,000 insurance jobs in the United States. The talent gap in the insurance industry is real, listen in as Chris Cline discusses ways your agency can tap into young talent with Connie Frey*.

Invest: High School Programs

Invest provides you the opportunity to reach high school students. The program teaches students insurance basics such as how to rate auto insurance and recommends a formal internship or job shadow. Opportunities include taking students to clients as a job shadow where they will not need a license.

Gamma Iota Sigma: College Risk Management Programs

Insurance programs are on the rise at college campuses. The state of Ohio, for instance, has 12 programs alone. Take a look at the Gamma Iota Sigma website for a list of chapters. This business fraternity for risk management and other insurance specific majors provides your agency with an interested group of young professionals looking to make a positive impact.

Internship Flexibility

Interns at your agency do not need to focus on insurance. Does your agency have social media but you aren't sure how to capitalize on this technology? Advertising for a social media intern is just one way to infuse your agency with young talent. When advertising your internships, consider discussing how insurance is a noble industry. This is an often overlooked differentiator for the industry.
