Personal Coverage

Valuable Possessions

My daughter plays clarinet in the school orchestra; she's quite serious about it so we bought her the best clarinet we could afford - and she loved it, until it fell out of the case, hit the floor and shattered. I promised her that we would get a new one, that our homeowner's insurance policy would cover the cost to replace the instrument. It was an accident, after all. I later found out that to cover events like this I needed to purchase additional coverage for this type of loss.

Scheduling property - If you own valuable items or collections, you may want to schedule those items in your homeowner policy.  When items are "scheduled," they are listed in your policy with separate, often broader, coverage. More about scheduling personal property
