Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage

What is Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage?

Uninsured motorists coverage pays for your injuries if someone without insurance causes an accident or if you're hit by a hit-and-run driver. Underinsured motorists coverage comes into play when someone else causes an accident but doesn't have enough insurance. These coverages also pay for lost wages if you have to miss work due to injury.

Driving with a Suspended License

There may be more people than you think driving with a suspended license. In Ohio, for example, 1.5 million drivers had their licenses suspended in 2008 (one in five drivers).

What does this have to do with uninsured/underinsured motorists coverage? Increasingly, insurance companies are denying coverage if the driver isnít legally licensed.

Many of those drivers with suspended licenses continue to get behind the wheel. This is all the more reason to explain the importance of uninsured/underinsured motorists coverage to your customers. A downturn in the economy and increase in unemployment can also lead to an increase in uninsured drivers.
