Westfield Insurance Foundation Awards $695,000 Benefitting Communities Across 11 States

Westfield Center, OH, December 15, 2015 - During the fourth quarter, Westfield Insurance Foundation awarded $695,000 to 40 nonprofits for their efforts related to disaster relief, family stability and safety, bringing the Foundation’s total giving to more than $2 million in 2015.

Approximately $330,000 was donated through Westfield’s new Legacy of Caring program in which Westfield Trilogy® agents can nominate a nonprofit in their local communities. The nonprofit’s work must align with Westfield’s priority areas.

“We value our partnerships with our independent insurance agencies. Giving back to our agents’ communities in support of these key areas is an extension of the fundamental role insurance plays every day in stabilizing families, businesses and communities,” said Westfield Insurance President and CEO and Westfield Insurance Foundation Chairman, Ed Largent.

An additional $365,000 in family stability grants was distributed to nine nonprofit agencies for their comprehensive approaches to help families overcome multiple barriers and achieve greater stability. Successful grantees demonstrated the ability to tie together several key challenges of families caught within a fragile economic situation.

“Westfield recognizes that vulnerable families face multiple issues and we want to help nonprofits in their approaches to reducing more than one barrier to success,” said Jani Groza, Westfield Insurance Foundation executive director and Westfield Insurance community investment leader. “When we look at the nonprofit agencies we support, we see unique insights into the demographic they serve, whether it’s parents or children.”

Westfield Insurance Foundation will work with the following family stability partners over the next one to three years to achieve successful outcomes towards stabilizing families:

Cleveland Housing Network, Fairfax Renaissance Development Corporation, Neighborhood Housing Services of Greater Cleveland and Spanish American Committee, which are traditionally known for providing stable housing in the Greater Cleveland area, are all working towards streamlining services to clients. These organizations identified efficiencies in how they provide services to clients and are focused on integration in order to also address education, employment and financial acumen.

College Now of Greater Cleveland and Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C), both long-time champions for adult learners with focused efforts on career exploration and financial training, are extending the number of clients they can serve annually as well as customizing needs to adults with children. College Now is focused on addressing immediate needs, such as childcare issues, and Tri-C is engaging whole families in a culture of learning through a six-week Saturday Family Academy.

Horizons National and Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.) provide supportive environments which build on parental support through caring adult role models and result in improved educational outcomes. Y.O.U. focuses on placing teens in summer employment while Horizons provides an enrichment program to address “summer slide.” Westfield’s grant to Horizons is directed toward a newly launched program in Lancaster, PA, where Westfield’s second largest office is located.
