Westfield Center, OH, November 6, 2015 - Westfield Insurance, a super-regional, customer-focused insurance carrier, received a Silver Award of Excellence from Brandon Hall Group for its Active Threat eLearning video. Entered in the "Best Use of Video" category, Westfield’s interactive video was designed in a way to allow learners to engage with the content and experience true-to-life situations and their consequences. Brandon Hall judges mentioned Westfield’s eLearning videos were impactful, well-organized, exhibited clear learning objectives and demonstrated excellent interactive scenarios.
"We are honored to receive the Silver award for our Active Threat eLearning video. This project is a great example of collaboration across Westfield and with our external partners," commented Westfield University Leader, Mary Mennell. "Through this highly collaborative effort, the project created a learning experience our employees can apply both at work and home."
Westfield’s Active Threat mandatory training has two components; a video-based eLearning course followed by a two-hour instructor-led session. The instructor-led classes are taught by Westfield’s Safety and Security officers and are tailored for each work location, including its Home Office campus, 37 service offices and eight bank branches.
"Through this video-based training, employees are learning how to recognize, react and respond to minimize their risk in potentially violent situations." stated Learning and Development Operations Leader, Chuck Weaver.
Going forward, all new Westfield employees will be required to complete the Active Threat eLearning course and updated information sessions will be required every three years for all employees.
"In today’s environment, preparing our employees against active threat risks aligns with Westfield’s mission to provide peace of mind and protection," stressed Westfield Insurance’s Group Safety, Security and Compliance Leader, Greg Loftus.
Judging the Best Use of Video category involved evaluating programs that include video content that can be accessed on learners’ computers or mobile devices and was based on the following criteria:
- Did the video effectively align to the learning needs and business/organization situation?
- Did the use and design of the video program effectively support the learning objectives?
- Was the training delivered successfully through video, and was it easy to access and use?
- How did the use of video for learning produce measurable benefits and outcomes for learners and the organization?
- Overall, did this use of video for learning demonstrate a positive impact to its users and the organization and was it an appropriate learning approach.
Often called the "Academy Awards" by learning, talent and business executives, the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards program was one of the first of its kind when it debuted in 1994. The awards recognize the best organizations that have successfully developed and deployed programs, strategies, modalities, processes, systems and tools that have achieved measurable results. Each year, Brandon Hall receives applications from organizations around the globe. The entries are evaluated by an international panel of independent industry experts, Brandon Hall Group senior analysts, and its executive leadership team.
"Westfield’s culture of caring enables our employees to be highly engaged in this interactive learning experience," added Westfield’s Group Human Resources Leader, Chris Paterakis. "The tragic events occurring all over our country have unfortunately mandated this type of training as being an integral part of every employee’s learning and development plan."
