New Fencing Protects Public Safety

New Fencing Protects Public Safety

Westfield Center, Ohio - October 1, 2013 - -- In a first action since acquiring the property, Westfield Insurance has erected a temporary security fence around the vacant Westfield School. The fence is an investment by the company in public safety.

"Children especially have a propensity for curiosity and putting themselves in harm’s way," Kirk Barry, Westfield Group General Services Leader, explained.  "The fence is a prudent deterrent that helps keep people safely away from the building."

Safety fencing is often erected around worksites and properties that present an attractive nuisance. The fencing at Westfield School is a measure to protect people of the community by establishing boundaries around a deteriorating structure.

The fence surrounding the school was installed by The Ruhlin Company, which has been hired by Westfield Insurance to act as general contractor for taking down the building later this year. Ruhlin has extensive experience in similar projects.

Westfield Insurance agreed to purchase the property and assume the costs to remove the building.  The company has pledged to work with the Historical Society and the Village to preserve artifacts from the building that served as a center of education for nearly a century.
