Through its network of more than 200 affiliates, Rebuilding Together provides free rehabilitation and critical repairs to the homes of low-income Americans, making homes safer, more accessible, and more energy efficient.

This means that disabled and aging homeowners are able to remain in their homes for as long as possible, and homeowners displaced by natural disaster can get back into safe housing with help from the community.

How employees, agents and customers help Rebuilding Together

Since 2008, Westfield employees, agents and customers have been volunteering for Rebuilding Together in Pittsburgh and St. Paul.

News: Pittsburgh, PA - April 2010

Westfield Insurance employees, their customers and several partners joined Rebuilding Together in Pittsburgh, PA as part of a nation-wide initiative to address the plight of America’s low-income homeowners.

Working on a local Penn Hills area home, they installed key safety items such as hand rails, bath safety equipment, a programmable thermostat, smoke and CO detectors, and reflective house numbers, and they removed large tree limbs from the yard that fell during a winter storm. Rebuilding Together, the leading nonprofit endeavoring to preserve affordable homeownership in more than 200 cities across America, and its affiliates from all parts of the country revitalized more than 10,000 owner-occupied homes on April 24, thanks to the efforts of 200,000 volunteers.

“It’s critical to maintain safety in your home,” said Barbara Brizendine, Westfield Insurance bond manager, Cranberry service office, and organizer of Westfield’s involvement. “We look forward to this project every year.” She continues, “One of our customers, A. J. Stones was the house captain and Miller Electric Company, one of our surety clients, performed all of the electrical work. We were able to engage one of our vendors, Disaster Restoration Services as well—so it’s a team effort.” Westfield believes by working closely with agents and customers on community projects we get to know each other on a different level. It enriches our relationship because we have worked together on something that changed a life, or lives, for the better--it goes beyond business.
