ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (Kentucky)

On Sunday, September 5, the Mattingly family of Daviess County received a knock on the door that changed their lives. It’s a knock heard round the world … because it’s followed by the exuberant team of ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition – led by Ty Pennington – who almost immediately dive into a non-stop week of construction to build a new home for the family.

A few days prior, Westfield Insurance was invited to join the excitement by its business partners in Owensboro. BB&T, an independent agency partner of Westfield Insurance, was the official sponsor of the Builder for the Extreme Makeover project. The local construction company selected for the project is Thompson Homes, a Westfield Insurance customer insured by EM Ford – also an agency partner.

With our history of supporting community revitalization, safety and education and human services, Westfield Insurance naturally wanted to get involved. Westfield Insurance made a donation to the Thompson Homes Extreme Family Fund at BB&T Bank – for the amount of home insurance policy. The Mattinglys can use the money towards an insurance policy with any company.

"The Mattingly family has shown tremendous ability to work towards a better life in the face of the obstacles they have been given. They are not only deserving of this new home, they deserve to have peace of mind that their new home and their belongings are protected should any further unexpected events occur in their lives," said Mary Lou Solsman, senior executive of personal lines underwriting.

To learn more about the Mattingly family, visit www.abc.com and tune in to ABC on Sundays at 8/7 p.m. Central to see all the deserving families whose lives are touched by Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The Mattingly family show will air on Sunday, November 29, at 8/7 p.m. Central.

Habitat for Humanity of Kent County (Michigan)

Westfield agency relationship manager Dan Gordon knew Habitat for Humanity of Kent County struggled to find volunteers during the winter months. Additionally, the finishing work that takes place inside homes in the winter does not require a large number of volunteers at a time. All ten Westfield employees in the Grand Rapids area cannot volunteer on the same day; therefore, winter was the perfect time to be involved.

Suspecting that Westfield’s partner agencies would want to be involved with Habitat for Humanity, Dan took the initiative to invite agents to join Westfield’s community investment partnership by challenging Westfield’s independent partner agencies to compete against one another in sending volunteers to Habitat for Humanity.

Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania)

For the second year in a row, Westfield Insurance proudly joined Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh on National Rebuilding Day, Saturday, April 25, 2009 when more than 1,000 volunteers donate time, skills and materials to renovate thirty older dwellings into safe, affordable housing.

As a house sponsor, Westfield Insurance donated financial resources and provided a team of volunteers to work on the home of a disabled couple. Employees from our independent agency partner, Cusumano Insurance, joined a team of ten Westfield employees.

Additionally, when Westfield saw the amount of skilled electrical work needed for their house, we asked Miller Electric, a Westfield customer, to join the effort. Miller Electric has donated skilled labor for Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh previously, and they were happy to partner with their insurance carrier for the endeavor. To top things off, Kevin Lynch, of Belfor, which provides disaster restoration services to Westfield’s customers, learned of the activity and also joined the cause.

Rebuilding Together Twin Cities (Minnesota)

In 2008 we recruited 70 employees from ten agency partners in the area to join 30 employees serving Minnesota and spent the day volunteering in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Twin Cities was one of five cities selected by Home and Garden Television viewers to be a part of HGTV’s Change the world. Start at home. project, in which a home, a school and community space were revitalized – in just one week!

Westfield Insurance would like to thank our partner independent agencies who have joined in this community investment project.

Special thanks to the Minnesota Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers, a member of Trusted Choice®

"Westfield not only brought us together as an industry to do something good, they made it easy, resulting in strengthening our ties with one another and the community" Dick McKenney, president, MIIAB.
