Top-finishing teams earn grants from Westfield. Grants are paid directly to winning schools to support academic programs and projects.

Since its return to NewsChannel 5 in 2003 with the support of Westfield Insurance as title sponsor, Academic Challenge has been honored with twelve Emmy^® Awards. For the 2007-2008 season, not only did the program celebrate its 40th year on WEWS, but Academic Challenge was honored as Best Regularly Scheduled Children/Youth Program by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – Lower Great Lakes chapter.
