It doesn't take long to get a feel for Westfield's culture. We are a relationship company. We're
focused on people. There's an atmosphere of respect, and a commitment to doing the right thing.
Our culture has been ingrained in our company since 1848. We're as much about relationships as
the small group of farmers that started our company more than 160 years ago...in that respect, not much has
changed.
Company Size
About 2,500 people work at Westfield throughout the country. Our Home
Office campus has 1,600 employees, with about 250 housed at the Center
for Innovation and Technology (CIT) building. Nearly 1,000 employees
work in offices throughout our 31 operating states.
Even in an office of 1,600 people, Westfield still manages to have a close-knit
culture that is rooted in our long history.
Management Style
Shibu Joycutty talks about open communication
Westfield has a very "open" management philosophy – with open communication and a culture based on
empowerment. "Sharing knowledge. Building Trust." are more than just words.
Open Communication
You don't generally hear people call our CEO "Mr. Clay" – because he goes by Jim. While we're a
professional company, our senior leaders pride themselves on
their relationships with employees. Our leaders have worked hard to keep the lines of communication
open at all levels of the organization.
Three times a year, our CEO and the leaders of Westfield Insurance and Westfield Bank stand
up in front of the entire employee population to talk about what's going on with the company and
answer questions. Even the tough questions. Employees are encouraged to openly ask about things
that are on their minds...and our leaders will answer.
Empowerment
Empowerment is more a concept at Westfield. Employees here embrace accountability, act responsibly
and support co-workers' efforts to succeed. Our performance management process links each person's
objectives to our corporate goals, giving everyone a line of sight to our company's service and
results. In 2007, Westfield's senior leadership and board of directors signed a Declaration of
Empowerment, showing their commitment to being an empowered organization.
Work Environment
The work environment at Westfield varies depending on your location and your role...from our
Home Office campus, to our service offices, to employees who are mostly out in the field
working with customers and agents.
Home Office
Our Home Office environment consists of offices and cubicles, with beautiful decor chosen by a
professional interior designer to provide a pleasant place to work. Dress is business
appropriate, not formal...so you don't have to wear a suit every day. On Fridays, employees company-wide can dress casually. The Home Office is our largest
location, with 1,600 of our 2,500 employees based here. It is also where we entertain agents
and guests, so employees have access to the Westfield Group Country Club, Westfield Inn, Blair
Center conference facility, and Smucker Hall cafeteria.
Westfield's home office is located in
Northeast Ohio, in the town of Westfield
Center. We're part of the "Cleveland
Plus" region, the 12th largest region in
the U.S. and home to over 4 million
residents.

Service Offices
Each of our service offices has its own unique environment...with the same friendly atmosphere.
Dress ranges from business appropriate to casual depending on the office.
Westfield has nearly 40 service
offices throughout our operating states.
Field Representatives
For our employees in the field, their work environment is the offices and locations of the agents
and customers we serve. Some field employees are based out of their home, and some have space at
one of our nearly 40 service offices.
IT Employees
Most of our IT employees work in a different environment designed to be conducive to their work -
The Center for Innovation and Technology (CIT). At the CIT, employees can dress casually and wear
jeans. This building is newly renovated and fosters a collaborative IT environment.
