2011 Standard of Excellence WebAward, Web Marketing Association

This honor recognizes westfieldinsurance.com for high scores across the board in the categories of design, innovation, technology, content, ease of use, interactivity and copywriting.

Westfield’s scores compared favorably in competition with more than 2,000 website entries from 45 countries.

2011 Applied Systems Interface Partner Award

The commitment by Westfield Insurance to its independent insurance agency partners has earned the company the 2011 Interface Partner award from insurance technology company Applied Systems. The award recognizes Westfield on investments in systems development to support ease-of-doing business for agents. Westfield was recognized for interface advancements in download and real-time rating in agents' offices.

"Effective interfaces between Westfield and our agency partners are critical to the longterm success of our company , our agencies, and the independent agency distribution system," said Todd Warholic, agency automation leader at Westfield. National 2011 PIA Company Award of Excellence

The award is the highest recognition of an insurance company presented by the national Association of Professional Insurance Agents and salutes Westfield on our steadfast support for the independent agency system.

2011 "Best Practices Award" from The Data Warehousing Institute (TDWI)

TDWI, widely recognized as the premiere educational institution for business intelligence and data warehousing, has designed its Best Practices Award program to identify and honor companies that have demonstrated excellence in developing, deploying and maintaining applications for business intelligence, data warehousing and related data management areas.

According to TDWI, "This year's Best Practices Award winners showcase the best work being done in our industry. The awards highlight implementations that can provide valuable lessons and insight for other business intelligence and data warehouse teams seeking to realize the full potential of business intelligence." Westfield won the best practice award for the Enterprise BI category.

TDWI honored Westfield based on an integrated approach to delivery and adoption of business intelligence. Westfield combined four elements - collaboration and iterative design; enterprise-wide data governance; analytical center of excellence; and change management discipline - to create a broadly supported, integrated effort that drove success and adoption of BI

Masters of Business Change

Westfield will partner with IBM on the Masters of Business Change Series, of which Westfield is a featured company. This project profiles Westfield's success in the area of business intelligence and analytics through news features, interviews, and broadcasts on leading national news programs. In addition, a case study and video testimonial on Westfield's business intelligence journey are planned.

IBM recognizes the Westfield BI journey as unique, specifically because Westfield strives to create a culture where decision making is information-based, and consistently delivers analytics to front-line employees.

Start! Fit-Friendly Company, Gold Level Award

YWCA Woman of Professional Excellence Award

For several years Westfield Insurance has been recognizing Westfield women with the YWCA Woman of Professional Excellence Award. Presented at The YWCA Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon on May 16, 2011, this recognition provides a unique opportunity to acknowledge and reinforce the contributions of exceptional women within the organization.

Recipients are selected by their employers for their professionalism and commitment to helping other women achieve. The following criteria guide the selection:

  • High professional standards and evidence of career and personal growth
  • Significant contributions to the effective, efficient operation of the organization
  • Willingness to support and mentor others in the organization, especially women

    Partner of the Year Award

    Westfield Insurance is proud to receive the 2010 Partner of the Year Award from J. Krug & Associates, Inc, of Chicago, IL. This annual award is presented to a carrier partner based on the following criteria:

  • Ease of doing business
  • Responsiveness
  • Helpfulness
  • An overall attitude of collaboration with J. Krug & Associates to reach its goals
  • Steve Zerull, middle market field manager, St. Charles service office, received the award during a presentation at the J. Krug office, followed by a luncheon at the Palm Court Restaurant, Arlington Heights.

    “Steve Zerull, middle market field manager, Westfield Insurance, continually goes above and beyond to grow with our agency and provide us with the tools necessary to succeed,” J. Krug & Associates. “Westfield has more of a personal touch in the way that they conduct business. In a time when agency automation and technological resources have been at the forefront of the insurance business, it is refreshing to experience the personal touch put forth by Westfield.”

    Independent Insurance Agents of Ohio Eagle Award

    At their 113th Annual Meeting, the Independent Insurance Agents of Ohio (Ohio Big ‘I’) honored Westfield Insurance with their Eagle Award, which recognizes the outstanding insurance company of the year. The award was presented to Bob Joyce, CEO of Westfield Insurance for their ongoing commitment to the independent agency system. Westfield previously won this award in 2007.

    In presenting the award, Ohio Big ‘I’ President David Hazen said "Westfield’s winning vision embraces innovation and opportunities for a changing world. A leader of today and tomorrow, we all can rely upon Westfield’s essential element of endurance in building strong, mutually beneficial relationships with independent agents and its promise of commitment and to service excellence provided by an excellent team of people."

    In 2006, the Eagle Award was created by members of the Executive Committee of the Ohio Big 'I' to single out for recognition one of its company friends for their commitment to the values, sound principles and correct practices to our industry, the independent insurance agent and the American Agency System. It is the highest recognition bestowed upon a company by the Ohio Big 'I'.

    Westfield was chosen most notably for their enthusiastic support as a Trusted Choice company, for being a driving force with the emerging InVEST program (industry organization that introduces students to career opportunities in insurance) and for their sponsorship support of young agents to attend the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America’s National Legislative conference to meet with state legislators on insurance issues.

    "We are honored to receive this award. Insurance is an extremely complex product, and the only way consumers can fully protect what they care about the most is through the advice and expertise of independent insurance agents," said Westfield Insurance CEO Bob Joyce. "It is usually after a loss when people realize they did not have the right coverage. That is what makes this award so special; it reflects our commitment and belief in the independent agency system."

    Property Casualty Insurers Association (PCI) President’s Award

    The Property Casualty Insurers Association (PCI) presented Westfield Insurance with the PCI President’s Award for Leadership in Advocacy. The award recipients were honored for their strong support of PCI advocacy efforts as well as their role as industry leaders in the advocacy space.

    "At a time when the world of influence has become more challenging, these companies have gone the extra mile to ensure that the industry’s voice is heard on Capitol Hill and state houses across the country," said David A. Sampson, PCI president and CEO.

    Westfield encourages employee political involvement through their innovative “Get Out the Vote” programs. By hosting in-house election events and on-the-road grassroots activities throughout the year, employees can become informed and back candidates who support positions important to the property casualty insurance industry, and ultimately, employees and policyholders.

    Top 10 for Ease of Doing Business

    In a recent survey sent out to 7,800 agents, Westfield was named as one of the Top 10 companies for Ease of Doing Business. The firm who conducted the survey (Deep Customer Connections) specializes in consulting to insurance carriers.

    Among the index measurements, marketing support needed the least improvement from carriers, but underwriting response and underwriting flexibility needed improvement. One point of the survey shows that 99 percent of agents say making it easy to do business is critical to their decision as to which carriers they do business with."

    Top 10 Best Employers in Ohio

    Westfield Insurance was recently named as one of the “Best Employers in Ohio.” The annual list of “Best Employers in Ohio” was created by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Ohio State Council and Best Companies Group.

    This survey and award program was designed to identify, recognize and honor the best places of employment in Ohio, benefiting the state’s economy, its workforce and businesses. The “Best Employers in Ohio” list is made up of 25 companies. More ->

    Best of Show and Award of Excellence, Insurance Marketing Communications Association (IMCA)

    As the oldest insurance marketing association in North America, IMCA is an international organization of insurance communications professionals whose Showcase Awards competition annually recognizes outstanding marketing communications in the insurance industry.

    Top 10 Best Employers in Ohio

    Westfield Insurance was named one of the Top 10 Best Employers in Ohio by the Best Employers in Ohio organization, an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource management, under the large company category.

    Best Employers uses employee surveys to measure leadership and planning, corporate culture and communication, role satisfaction, work environment, relationship with supervisor, pay and benefits and overall employee engagement. This accomplishment recognizes Westfield for creating and maintaining an environment where people love to come to work.

    "Partner Carrier of the Year", Old National Insurance

    Old National Insurance (ONI), one of the largest independent insurance agencies in the United States with headquarters in Indianapolis and offices across the Midwest, awarded Westfield Insurance 2009 Partner Carrier of the Year distinction.

    Women of Professional Excellence, YWCA of Cleveland

    Mary Mennell, learning group leader, was selected by Westfield to receive the "Women of Professional Excellence" Award, presented by the YWCA of Cleveland. She was honored at the 34th Annual Women of Achievement luncheon along with several other honorees April 26th, 2010 at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Cleveland. Mary Lou Solsman, personal lines underwriting leader, and Sally Estvanic, government relations leader, received the award in 2009.

    Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana Company Professional of the Year

    John A. Ekdahl, state sales manager, received the 2009 Independent Insurance Agents of Indiana (IIAI) Company Professional of the Year Award from the IIAI Young Agents Committee. This award recognizes the achievements of an individual who is a professional with a member company of the IIAI and conducts the majority of his/her business in Indiana.

    Insurance Standard of Excellence WebAward

    Westfield received the 2009 Insurance Standard of Excellence WebAward from the Web Marketing Association for www.westfieldinsurance.com. The website was judged on design, innovation, content, technology, interactivity, copywriting and ease of use.

    Applied Systems Recognizes Westfield for Agency-Carrier Communication

    Westfield Insurance received the 2009 Interface Partner Award and the 2008 Partner Award for Dedication to Interface Partnerships, both honors recognizing the company for our involvement and dedication in the industry to interface and the Real Time movement.

    The award was presented by Applied Systems Inc., the insurance technology company that develops automated agency management systems and has a longstanding commitment to continually improving agency-carrier communication.

    Agency Real Time Technology Awards from ACORD

    Westfield has been recognized for efforts to deliver and promote Real Time transactions, which greatly streamline agency workflows.  The company received two prestigious awards from ACORD, the AUGIE Carrier Productive Agency Award and the Real Time Implementation and Active Agencies award. ACORD is the Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development.

    The AUGIE Carrier Productive Agency Award recognized Westfield for the Real Time transactions they have implemented and their proactive work to educate agents on the benefits of Real Time workflows.

    The Real Time implementation and Active Agencies award was given to carriers who, like Westfied, offer a full suite of Real Time service and sales transactions implemented using ACORD standards.

    Westfield honored for political involvement

    Westfield Insurance received the 2008 Political Involvement Achievement Award at the Property Casualty Insurers Association of America's (PCI) annual Legislative Action Day in Washington, D.C. The Company was honored for our outstanding development of an effective grassroots program - Grassroots of Westfield (GrOW).

    Launched in 2006, the program has strived to revitalize and improve Westfield's grassroots political programs and participation among employees. GrOW is unique because it is managed and owned by volunteer employee members.

    Sally Estvanic, director of government relations, accepted the award on behalf of Westfield. She is a nationally recognized innovator in the field of government affairs and founder of GrOW.

    The grassroots program was also honored in February by the Public Affairs Council with the 2008 Corporate Grassroots Innovation Award. Since 2007, GrOW has received four national awards and is recognized as a leading program in the insurance industry.

    Women of Professional Excellence

    Mary Christian, regional claims operations executive, and Jani Davis, community investment director, were among those honored at the recent Greater Cleveland YWCA-sponsored 2008 Women of Achievement Awards Luncheon. Mary and Jani were named Women of Professional Excellence. Award recipients are selected by their employers for their professionalism and commitment to helping other women achieve.

    Best Practices Award of Excellence from the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers Association (Big "I")

    Westfield is one of five companies to receive this prestigious award in 2008, recognizing those companies that have made imaginative, outstanding and unique contributions in advocating "Best Practices" philosophies that enhance the independent agency system. The Big "I" Best Practices Program provides performance benchmarks and business strategies that serve as a guide to improving agency performance.

    Westfield was acknowledged for its participation on the Council for Best Practices and the number of Best Practices publications in its agency sales and perpetuation training programs.

    Westfield recognized for automation initiatives

    Westfield Insurance's automation initiatives - straight-through processing and automated underwriting and automated book transfer for agents - are among the 38 insurer technology initiatives recognized in Celent's Model Carrier 2008 report.

    The 38 "Model Carrier Components" are described in Celent's second annual report featuring case studies of effective technology usage in insurance.

    Westfield named one of North America's Top Small to Mid-size Companies for Leaders

    Westfield Group has been named one of North America's Top Small to Mid-size Companies for Leaders by Hewitt Associates. Westfield is one of three North American companies to receive the award.

    Hewitt Associates conducted the leadership study in partnership with The RBL Group and FORTUNE magazine and selected the Top Companies for Leaders through an independent panel of judges. Companies were evaluated on criteria including leadership practices, company reputation, leadership culture and values and business performance.

    Westfield's leadership development and succession planning programs, implemented during the last six years, incorporate personal employee development plans into the everyday operations of the businesses. These programs allow Westfield Group to devote resources, including time with senior level executives, to employees who demonstrate potential for future corporate leadership.

    Ohio Big 'I' Eagle Award

    Westfield Named in the 2007 Top 10 Employers in Ohio

    The Ohio Chamber of Commerce named Westfield Group in the top 10 employers in Ohio in 2007.  Westfield's commitment to employee satisfaction and community investment has opened opportunities to be recognized as a trusted partner and premier employer. The award aligns with our corporate goal to attract, develop, empower and retain quality people.

    The award was based on four main criteria including compensation and benefits, people practices, communications practices and corporate citizenship. Some of our most notable achievements include the Westfield Excellence program, our employee newsletters, and our support for employee community involvement, such as Habitat for Humanity and our employee grant program. Additionally, we were recognized for our dedication to fitness and wellness with the Inn Club and our programs for retirees.

    Westfield was in the category of large business, which includes companies with 250 employees or more.

    2007 ACORD Innovative Implementation & External Integration Business Value Awards

    ACORD recently presented Westfield Insurance with two awards recognizing the company's remote automated personal lines book transfer process on May, 20, 2007 at the ACORD LOMA national conference.

    The ACORD Innovative Implementation award recognizes companies in each of the standard ACORD programs that implement XML standards in unique, exceptional and innovative ways. The External Integration Business Value award is given to companies whose XML implementations of ACORD standards have had significant impact on their business.

    By leveraging technology in creative ways, Westfield created a remote automated personal lines book transfer process that fosters a significant decrease in internal resource requirements and travel costs. A complete book of business can be transferred to Westfield without traveling to the agency and re-keying policy information online. This automated remote process requires no agent interaction.

    ACORD (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development) is a nonprofit association that facilitates the development and used of standards for the insurance, reinsurance and related financial services industries.

    Training Top 125

    Training Magazine named Westfield to their Training Top 125 because of our commitment to attract, develop, empower and retain quality people. Westfield placed 94th on the list from a pool of international organizations including Microsoft, Ikea, MasterCard Worldwide and Lockheed Martin.

    Training Magazine examines the organization's annual revenue, number of employees, turnover, retention and training budget. They also review the company's overall training dedication and application in areas such as best practices, leadership development and talent management.

    Westfield's dedication to training and education helps to develop positive career opportunities for employees while maintaining a knowledgeable staff for our agency partners and policyholders.

    W3 Silver Award for www.westfieldinsurance.com

    The W3 Awards honor creative excellence on the web, including web sites, web marketing and web advertising.  The awards are presented by the International Academy of Visual Arts and sponsored by the American Marketing Association, The Creative Group, Adweek Magazines and iStockphoto.

    The W3 Awards consist of three levels of recognition: Out of the 2,300 entries, 1% receive a Best of Show, 10% receive a Gold Award and 20% receive a Silver Award.   The awards are not category-specific, so this award recognizes our web site as outstanding among all categories.

    2006 Applied Systems Interface Partner Award

    Westfield received this award recognizing commitment to agency-carrier communication through interface with agents and brokers who use Applied Systems agency management technology. Applied Systems, Inc., presented its 2006 Interface Partnership awards to insurance carriers judged best at advancing agency-company interface by creating interface opportunities.

    E-Fusion Award Finalist

    Westfield Insurance was a finalist for the A.M. Best 2006 E-Fusion Awards for our automated personal lines book of business transfer process. The E-Fusion awards recognize innovative, business-focused uses of technology by insurance companies. Westfield was nominated as a finalist in the Agent/Broker Management category.

    The E-Fusion nomination recognizes the combination of this team of people with technology to make the process automated and remote. The process now requires little involvement from the agent, allowing Westfield to increase our level service and make it easier on the agent to transfer a book to us.

    IMCA Awards of Excellence

    The Insurance Marketing Communication Association (IMCA) presented Westfield three Awards of Excellence in 2006.  Awards were given to the corporate web site in the category of Electronic Communications, the annual report in its respective category and the new agency prospecting 1:1 card in the Audio/Visual Communications category.

    NAER Best Practices Award for Employee Recognition

    Westfield recently received a national award from the National Association for Employee Recognition (NAER), the only association dedicated solely to advancing recognition in all work places.  Reinforcing standards of excellence, the National Association for Employee Recognition sponsors an annual review of nominees for Best Practices in seven strategic categories: recognition strategy, management responsibility, recognition program measurement, communication plan, recognition training, recognition events and celebrations and program change and flexibility.

    ACORD recognizes Westfield's leadership in commercial download

    Westfield Insurance received the Industry Leadership for Improved Commercial Lines Download award from ACORD.  This award recognizes insurance companies who offer extensive commercial download based on current ACORD standards.  By successfully implementing commercial lines download based on ACORD standards, Westfield ensures that agents will spend less time entering data into their agency management system, saving time and money for the agency.  The award is given to only a few select companies that show leadership in adopting standards.

    Training and Development Leadership Award

    The Nance College of Business Administration at Cleveland State University and the Rotary of Cleveland initiated the Business Leadership Awards Program in 1997 to provide recognition for outstanding leadership in five areas:  global business, entrepreneurship, quality service, training and employee development, and community service. Westfield won the Training and Development Leadership Award; co-sponsored by Greater Cleveland Chapter, American Society for Training and Development (ASTD).

    Westfield was recognized for extensive employee training and development program that starts with the orientation program, Performance Management and corporate policies.  Performance Management was recognized for its ability to provide alignment between Westfield's corporate vision and the employee performance.  In addition to the foundations of performance management, we were recognized for our focus on employee development that includes the use of feedback, coaching and development plans.

    Showalter Group's Political Involvement Award

    Westfield recently won the Showalter Group's Political Involvement Award in the category of Grassroots for the Legislative Lightning Program.  The Showalter Group, Inc. conducts one of the nation's longest running and most comprehensive programs of assessment of political involvement program innovations

    Legislative Lightning was created to give quick hits of political information in a lively, interactive format that crossed all department lines.  These meetings present topics that are likely to affect and impact the way we do business.

    Best of the Healthy 50 Award

    HealthSpace Cleveland honored Westfield for its dedication to employee health and wellness.  To honor forward thinking companies and to promote health and wellness in the workplace, HealthSpace Cleveland developed Healthy 50.  Within the Healthy 50 organizations, HealthSpace chooses three organizations who lead the industry in wellness programming.  Westfield Group is one of five organizations being considered for the Best of the Healthy 50 Award.

    2006 Webby Award Nomination

    The Webby Awards, called the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, nominated Westfield's corporate web site for the Best Insurance Web Site of 2006. Westfield is one of five insurance companies chosen for this category by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences.

    Community Champion Award

    At a Habitat for Humanity of Medina County fund raiser, Westfield reeived Community Champion award, which is given to  a sponsor of company that goes 'over and above the norm' to support Habitat.

    Westfield was presented the Community Champion Award for generous grants providing equipment and labor to landscape each home.  In Medina County, Westfield has helped Habitat build five homes. Westfield was also recognized for allowing employees to volunteer and assist with the labor.

    2006 Innovation in Sales and Technology Award

    Westfield Insurance was recognized by the American Insurance Marketing and Sales (AIMS) Society as the 2006 Innovation in Sales and Technology award winner.  Recognizing the need to enhance sales through technology within the automated agency environment, the AIMS Society developed an award to recognize the carrier, vendor or agency that demonstrates a commitment to technology that enhances the insurance sales process.

    Invest in the Best Award

    Westfield received the Invest in the Best award in recognition of achieving excellence in employee training and leadership development. The award, sponsored by Cuyahoga Community College's Corporate College and American Society for Training and Development, was created to be the gold standard for effective employee and leadership development programs.

    S.H.A.R.E. Award

    Westfield is the proud recipient of the 2005 S.H.A.R.E. award, part of the Pillar Award for Community Service program and presented by Medical Mutual of Ohio and Smart Business magazine. Each year, one S.H.A.R.E. award is presented to the company that best exemplifies employee-driven community service, philanthropy or volunteerism. Named after Medical Mutual's employee volunteer committee, the award stands for serve, help, aid, reach and educate.

    Friends of Big Brothers/Big Sisters Award

    Big Brothers and Sisters of Summit and Medina County presented Westfield with the Friends of Big Brothers/Big Sisters award for Westfield Circle Charitable committee's donation to the non-profit organization. The committee raised more than $3,500 during its annual basket raffle held this summer in Smucker Hall.

    AFP Corporate Leadership Award

    Westfield Group received the Corporate Leadership award sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) North Central Ohio Chapter, honoring outstanding contributions to philanthropic efforts throughout the region.

    Westfield is the local sponsor of Academic Challenge, an Emmy award-winning television show that highlights scholastic achievement by area high school students.

    Westfield employees are actively involved in the community as volunteers to Habitat for Humanity. Through its community investment program, Westfield has donated more than $250,000 to the American Red Cross in support of hurricane relief efforts. Westfield is the largest private contributor to Medina County University Center, an initiative with The University of Akron that will bring a campus for post-secondary education to Medina County.

    Applied's Ease of Doing Business Award

    Applied Systems, Inc. presented Westfield Insurance with a 2005 Ease of Doing Business Award in both commercial and personal lines, recognizing insurance companies that make it easy for agents to conduct business through agency-company interface. Westfield was one of only sixteen companies judged best at providing standardized workflows for managing sales and service directly from their Applied management systems.

    Westfield honored as "Pillar" in community

    In November 2004, Westfield Group received the Pillar Award for Community Service, acknowledging the Company’s commitment to philanthropy and volunteerism. The Pillar Award was developed by Smart Business magazine and Medical Mutual of Ohio to honor businesses dedicated to making northeast Ohio a better place to live.
